The ASX Top 10 momentum stocks for the week ending Saturday 15 August 2026 are led by King River Resources (KRR), which returns to the list at the #1 momentum rank carrying a +316.67% quarterly gain — the largest quarterly figure recorded in this series — while AVITA Medical (AVH) posts the largest weekly move at +77.34%. Scandium is the theme of the week: two central-NSW scandium companies, Australian Mines (AUZ) and Rimfire Pacific Mining (RIM), enter the Top 10 together in the week a US$400 million US government financing commitment for a neighbouring scandium project was reported. The list is fragmented rather than clustered — six distinct themes across the nine names published, against four themes last week.

Data note — read this before the figures. This week's dataset was captured on Thursday 13 August 2026 before the market closed. The prices behind every percentage in the table are therefore intraday, not closing prices, and they will differ from Thursday's close and from Friday's close. The ranking, the thematic composition and the day counters are unaffected by that timing; the individual percentages should be read as accurate to the moment of capture rather than to any settled session.

Nine names, not ten. One company that ranked at the top of this week's raw momentum export has been withheld from this article. Its recorded weekly gain of +4,275% against a quarterly gain of +950% is internally inconsistent — a stock cannot gain 4,275% in a week and finish the quarter up 950% without a collapse earlier in the period — and the pattern is consistent with an unadjusted corporate action rather than a market move. Rather than publish a figure that cannot be reconciled, Finer Market Points has excluded the row and republished the remaining nine, renumbered 1 to 9. The excluded company is not named here, and no conclusion about it should be drawn from its omission.

Launch Pad cells use an em dash where a company has no current Launch Pad entry; there are none this week. Day counts are trading sessions, not calendar days, and are capped at 45 in the source data — a figure shown as "45+" means at least 45 sessions. Sessions on the momentum list and sessions since Launch Pad entry are two separate counters drawn from two separate rankings; they are not expected to agree. All figures are drawn from Finer Market Points' proprietary momentum research, captured Thursday 13 August 2026, for the week published Saturday 15 August 2026.

Which Themes Are Driving ASX Momentum This Week?

Six distinct themes are represented across this week's nine published names — the most fragmented list in this series. Momentum leadership of this kind often appears first as how relative strength leads the momentum list and as Minervini's volatility contraction framework tightens on the chart, well before a theme is widely discussed.

Scandium — two Fifield-district names enter in the same week

Australian Mines (ASX: AUZ) entered the Finer Market Points ASX Top 10 momentum list at rank #4 for the week ending 15 August 2026, with a weekly gain of +60.87% and a quarterly gain of +37.04%. Its Flemington project in central New South Wales hosts a 6.3 Mt resource at 446 ppm scandium and lies on the same geological intrusion as, and contiguous with, Sunrise Energy Metals' Syerston project, with a pre-feasibility study being fast-tracked.

Rimfire Pacific Mining (ASX: RIM) entered the same list at rank #9 for the week ending 15 August 2026, posting identical weekly and quarterly gains of +45.45%. It holds the Currajong and Murga scandium prospects at Fifield, roughly 70 km north-west of Parkes, with a company-stated global Fifield inventory of 10.6 kt scandium (16.2 kt scandium oxide) after a maiden Currajong resource and a 300% increase to the Murga estimate.

Both companies gained in the week that the US Department of War's Office of Strategic Capital was reported to have made a conditional commitment of up to US$400 million toward Syerston — the deposit neighbouring both, and one held by a company that is not itself in this week's Top 10. Neither Australian Mines nor Rimfire announced financing of its own. Christopher Hall's reading is that this is the pattern a district-level catalyst usually leaves in a momentum list: the funded name reprices, and the holders of the adjacent ground reprice with it. That is an observation about the shape of the data, not an assertion that the financing caused either move, and not a view on either company. Scandium sits on Western critical-minerals lists because China controls an estimated 80–85% of global supply and has progressively tightened export restrictions. Critical-minerals momentum of this kind is typically sustained by government financing decisions, offtake agreements and study milestones rather than by spot pricing, which barely exists for scandium.

Gold exploration — the persistent theme, and the largest gain on the list

King River Resources (ASX: KRR) returned to the Finer Market Points ASX Top 10 momentum list at rank #1 for the week ending 15 August 2026, carrying a quarterly gain of +316.67% and a gain of +222.58% since entering the FMP Launch Pad 42 trading sessions earlier. That quarterly figure is the largest recorded in this series and more than three times the next-largest name on this week's list. The company completed a high-resolution UAV magnetic survey at its 100%-owned Mindoolah Gold Project in the Murchison, reported on 11 August 2026, which identified four priority targets and structural corridors beyond the historical workings; Phase 1 drilling totals 1,583 metres across 169 holes, and assays are now expected in mid-September after laboratory delays.

Benz Mining (ASX: BNZ) held rank #6 for the week ending 15 August 2026 — its fourth consecutive week on the list — with a quarterly gain of +67.09% against a weekly gain of +0.77%. It is drilling the 100%-owned Glenburgh Gold Project in the Gascoyne, and that weekly figure is the weakest on this week's list: the signature of a name holding its place on the quarterly rather than the recent component of its score. Exploration momentum is generally sustained by drill results, resource definition and funded programs. For the fuller picture, see the ASX gold explorer research hub, and for King River specifically, the KRR momentum profile.

Commercial-stage healthcare — approved products, not clinical trials

The distinction from last week matters: the three healthcare names on the 8 August list were all clinical-stage, while both names here sell an approved product.

AVITA Medical (ASX: AVH) entered the Finer Market Points ASX Top 10 momentum list at rank #2 for the week ending 15 August 2026, with a weekly gain of +77.34% — the largest weekly move on the list — and a quarterly gain of +89.17%. It is a US-domiciled regenerative medicine company whose RECELL autologous cell-harvesting device is supported by Cohealyx and PermeaDerm; second-quarter net revenue rose 18% year on year to US$21.7 million, the company said it expects to reach cashflow breakeven in the fourth quarter of 2026, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services proposed calendar-2027 Medicare payment updates that, if adopted, would set a national physician payment for RECELL and raise facility payment rates — a proposal, not a decision.

Neuren Pharmaceuticals (ASX: NEU) held rank #7 for the week ending 15 August 2026 — its second consecutive week — with a quarterly gain of +82.26%. Its partner-marketed DAYBUE (trofinetide) recorded US$125 million of second-quarter net sales, and full-year results are due 25 August 2026. Healthcare momentum is sustained by reimbursement decisions, regulatory milestones and the reporting calendar. FMP's healthcare hub will be linked here as it is published.

Water treatment, lithium brine and contract aviation — three single-name themes

Clean TeQ Water (ASX: CNQ) entered the Finer Market Points ASX Top 10 momentum list at rank #5 for the week ending 15 August 2026, with a quarterly gain of +64.04% and at least 45 trading sessions on the FMP Top 30 momentum list — the longest tenure of any name on this week's list. It supplies water-treatment plants and process technology to mining and industrial customers, and has been converting reference plants into contracts: a design-and-construct award for an ATA tailings dewatering plant at the Rasp Mine in Broken Hill, an industrial wastewater engineering contract in Europe, and an Ireland reference plant that ran above design hydraulic capacity through a ten-day continuous test in June 2026.

Power Minerals (ASX: PNN) entered the list at rank #8 for the week ending 15 August 2026, with a quarterly gain of +40.00% after just 8 trading sessions on the FMP Top 30 momentum list — the shortest tenure on this week's list. It holds a multi-salar lithium brine position in Argentina's Lithium Triangle across the Incahuasi, Rincón, Pocitos, Pular and Arizaro salars, under a March 2026 term sheet with Summit Explore, a subsidiary of Canadian lithium-technology group Summit Nanotech.

Alliance Aviation Services (ASX: AQZ) held rank #3 for the week ending 15 August 2026 — its second consecutive week — with a quarterly gain of +61.86% and a gain of +59.17% since entering the FMP Launch Pad 35 trading sessions earlier. It reset its Qantas wet lease on improved pricing from 1 July 2026, with FY26 results due 25 August 2026. FMP's industrials and battery-materials hubs will be linked here as they are published.

What Does This Week's Data Reveal About ASX Momentum Conditions?

How fragmented is this week's list?

The defining feature of this week's data is fragmentation. Six themes across nine names is the widest spread this series has recorded; last week four themes covered ten names, with three of those themes holding three places each. Research by Moskowitz and Grinblatt, published in the Journal of Finance in 1999, found that 60–73% of momentum profits derive from sector and industry effects rather than individual stock selection. That study measured US equities from 1963 to 1995 using a 48-industry classification, over long horizons and broad portfolios; a single week's Top 10 on the ASX is a far narrower sample from one market and carries none of that study's statistical guarantees. This week's data runs the other way from the clustering that paper describes — which is a description of one week, not evidence about either.

Which names entered and which dropped out?

Turnover stayed high for a second week. Three names carried over from 8 August — Alliance Aviation Services, Benz Mining and Neuren Pharmaceuticals — and King River Resources returned after two weeks away, last appearing on 25 July 2026. Five names are new to the Top 10 entirely: AVITA Medical, Australian Mines, Clean TeQ Water, Power Minerals and Rimfire Pacific Mining. Seven names dropped out: Iondrive, Carnaby Resources, Mastermyne Group, Wisr, Nyrada, PYC Therapeutics and Hammer Metals. Christopher Hall's reading is that two consecutive weeks of this much turnover usually reflects a change in what the market is paying for rather than a change in the momentum framework itself — an observation about conditions, not a prediction about any of the names arriving or leaving.

How can a stock ranked 258th for the week hold a Top 10 place?

Five of this week's nine names ranked inside the whole market's top six weekly movers: AVITA Medical 2nd, King River Resources 3rd, Australian Mines 4th, Clean TeQ Water 5th and Rimfire Pacific Mining 6th. That concentration at the top of the weekly board sits alongside two names whose weekly ranks are far down it — Neuren Pharmaceuticals at 80th and Benz Mining at 258th — and both still hold their places. The FMP momentum score weighs performance across more than one time window, which is why a stock ranked 258th for the week can share a list with one ranked 2nd.

Which names show the episodic-pivot signature?

Two names carry the signature of how a catalyst gap reprices a stock — the episodic pivot documented by Pradeep Bonde and Kristjan Kullamägi, in which a news event reprices a stock abruptly and its recent week bears little resemblance to the quarter behind it. Rimfire Pacific Mining posted identical weekly and quarterly figures of +45.45%, meaning effectively the entire quarterly gain was made in the single week captured. Australian Mines goes further: a weekly gain of +60.87% against a quarterly gain of +37.04% means the stock is lower across the balance of the quarter, and the whole of the quarterly figure — and more — was made in the last week. Both are scandium names. On this reading the divergence is an expected feature of a quarterly-ranked list that contains news-driven names, not a contradiction in the data; that is an interpretation of the pattern, not a prediction about what either stock does next.

Two explorers from the same commodity and the same state appearing together is the sister companies breaking out together pattern in its smallest form. Clusters of this kind tend to accompany broad capital interest in a commodity, and a two-name cluster is a weaker reading than a three- or four-name one.

What do the two day counters actually measure?

Alliance Aviation Services is the clearest illustration of how the two day counters behave. It shows 5 sessions of momentum-list tenure against 35 sessions since Launch Pad entry — it was flagged on the Launch Pad roughly seven weeks before it established itself on the momentum list, and last week its momentum-list counter was blank altogether. Clean TeQ Water is the mirror image: 45+ sessions on the momentum list against only 18 sessions since Launch Pad entry. The two measures read different sources over different observation windows, so neither divergence is an error.

How Did the FMP Launch Pad Perform This Week?

All nine of this week's momentum leaders carry an FMP Launch Pad entry — every name published here was flagged on the Launch Pad, a separate momentum-derived ranking, before this week's public Top 10. Returns since entering the Launch Pad range from +33.33% (Rimfire Pacific Mining) to +222.58% (King River Resources), the standout this week and the largest Launch Pad return recorded in this series to date. AVITA Medical is second at +97.39% and Benz Mining third at +95.50%.

Across the nine leaders the average return since entering the Launch Pad is +79.55%; the median is +59.17%, a more representative figure for the group given how far King River sits above the rest. The average time since entering the Launch Pad is 31 trading sessions. The shortest lead time belongs to Power Minerals at 9 sessions, the longest to King River Resources at 42. Members who had access to Thursday's Launch Pad data were positioned an average of 31 trading sessions before these nine names became publicly visible in the Top 10. These figures describe historical price gains for the named stocks since they were flagged on the Launch Pad and are not a guide to future returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the top ASX momentum stocks this week?

The top ASX momentum stocks for the week ending 15 August 2026 are King River Resources (KRR) at the #1 momentum rank with a +316.67% quarterly gain, AVITA Medical (AVH) at #2 with a +89.17% quarterly gain, and Alliance Aviation Services (AQZ) at #3 with a +61.86% quarterly gain. The rest of the published list is Australian Mines (AUZ), Clean TeQ Water (CNQ), Benz Mining (BNZ), Neuren Pharmaceuticals (NEU), Power Minerals (PNN) and Rimfire Pacific Mining (RIM). Nine names are published this week rather than ten, because one row of the raw export carried internally inconsistent figures and was withheld.

Why does this week's ASX momentum list show nine companies instead of ten?

One company that ranked at the top of this week's raw momentum export was withheld from publication. Its recorded weekly gain of +4,275% could not be reconciled with its recorded quarterly gain of +950%, a pattern consistent with an unadjusted corporate action rather than a market move, and Finer Market Points does not publish a figure it cannot reconcile. The remaining nine names have been renumbered 1 to 9 and their figures are unaffected. The excluded company is not named, and no conclusion about it should be drawn from its omission.

Why are two scandium companies in this week's ASX momentum Top 10?

Australian Mines (AUZ) at #4 and Rimfire Pacific Mining (RIM) at #9 both hold scandium ground in central New South Wales, and both gained in the week that the US Department of War's Office of Strategic Capital was reported to have made a conditional commitment of up to US$400 million toward Sunrise Energy Metals' Syerston scandium project. Australian Mines' Flemington project is contiguous with Syerston and sits on the same geological intrusion; Rimfire's Currajong and Murga prospects are in the same Fifield district. Neither company announced financing of its own, and no causal link between the Syerston commitment and either share price is asserted here. Scandium sits on Western critical-minerals lists because China controls an estimated 80–85% of global supply and has tightened export restrictions.

Which ASX scandium stocks are showing momentum in August 2026?

Two ASX scandium companies hold places on the Finer Market Points Top 10 momentum list for the week ending 15 August 2026. Australian Mines (AUZ) is at rank #4 with a +37.04% quarterly gain and a +60.87% week, holding the Flemington scandium project in central New South Wales. Rimfire Pacific Mining (RIM) is at rank #9 with identical weekly and quarterly gains of +45.45%, holding the Currajong and Murga prospects at Fifield. A place on this list measures price momentum over the quarter and the week — it is not an assessment of either company's merit, value or prospects, and it is not a recommendation.

Which ASX stocks entered the momentum Top 10 for the first time this week?

Five companies appear on the Finer Market Points Top 10 momentum list for the first time in the week ending 15 August 2026: AVITA Medical (AVH) at rank #2 with a +89.17% quarterly gain, Australian Mines (AUZ) at #4 with +37.04%, Clean TeQ Water (CNQ) at #5 with +64.04%, Power Minerals (PNN) at #8 with +40.00%, and Rimfire Pacific Mining (RIM) at #9 with +45.45%. King River Resources returned after two weeks away, and three names carried over from the prior week.

Why is this week's momentum data dated Thursday rather than Friday?

This week's dataset was captured on Thursday 13 August 2026 before the market closed, one session earlier in the week than the usual Friday capture. Every percentage in the table is therefore calculated from intraday prices rather than closing prices, and those figures will differ from Thursday's close and from Friday's close. The ranking order, the thematic composition and the trading-session counters are not affected by the earlier capture; the individual percentages are accurate to the moment of capture rather than to a settled session.

Which themes are leading ASX momentum this week?

Six distinct themes are represented across the nine names published, the most fragmented list in this series. Scandium holds two places (Australian Mines and Rimfire Pacific Mining) and gold exploration holds two (King River Resources and Benz Mining). Commercial-stage healthcare holds two more — AVITA Medical in regenerative medicine and Neuren Pharmaceuticals in biopharmaceuticals — which distinguishes this week from 8 August, when the three healthcare names on the list were all clinical-stage. Industrial water treatment (Clean TeQ Water), lithium brine (Power Minerals) and contract aviation (Alliance Aviation Services) hold one place each.

What is an episodic pivot, and which names in this week's list fit it?

An episodic pivot is a catalyst-driven move in which a stock gaps sharply on news, documented in the momentum-trading methodologies of Pradeep Bonde and Kristjan Kullamägi. The signature is a large recent move that bears little resemblance to the preceding period. Rimfire Pacific Mining (RIM) posted identical weekly and quarterly figures of +45.45%, meaning effectively the whole quarterly gain was made in the week captured. Australian Mines (AUZ) posted a weekly gain of +60.87% against a quarterly gain of +37.04% — the weekly figure exceeds the quarterly one, which means the stock is lower across the rest of the quarter and the entire quarterly gain was made in the final week. In a list ranked on quarterly momentum, this kind of divergence is an expected feature of catalyst-driven names rather than an inconsistency in the data.

Why do the two day counters on the FMP momentum list disagree?

They measure different things. Sessions on the momentum list records how long a stock has held a place on the FMP Top 30 momentum ranking; sessions since Launch Pad entry records how long ago it was flagged on the Launch Pad, a separate momentum-derived ranking with its own observation window. This week Clean TeQ Water (CNQ) shows 45+ sessions on the momentum list against 18 since Launch Pad entry, while Alliance Aviation Services (AQZ) shows the reverse — 5 sessions on the momentum list against 35 since Launch Pad entry. Neither divergence is an error. Both counters are trading sessions rather than calendar days and both are capped at 45 in the source data, so a figure shown as "45+" means at least 45 sessions.

What is the FMP Launch Pad and how does it work?

The FMP Launch Pad is a separate momentum-derived ranking — the daily top tier of a different momentum metric — that flags ASX companies for members. Each stock's sessions since entering the Launch Pad and return since entering the Launch Pad show how long ago it was flagged and how its price has moved since. This week all nine published momentum leaders carry a Launch Pad entry, with an average return since entry of +79.55% over an average of 31 trading sessions.

How does Finer Market Points identify ASX momentum leaders?

Finer Market Points ranks ASX stocks using a proprietary momentum score built on price performance across multiple time windows, then publishes the Top 10 each week. Because the score weighs more than one window, a stock ranked 258th for the week can hold a place alongside one ranked 2nd. The framework also tracks how many trading sessions each stock has held momentum status and whether it first appeared on the FMP Launch Pad.

How can traders access the ASX momentum list before it is published?

Traders can access the full Top 30 momentum list and Launch Pad data by becoming a Finer Market Points YouTube member. Members receive Thursday's data at 2pm — more than 40 hours before the public Saturday article — along with the Momentum Profile research behind the rankings.

Who Writes the FMP Momentum Research?

Christopher Hall, AdvDipFP, writes the Finer Market Points momentum research and is an Authorised Representative under AFSL 526688. He holds an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning and a Bachelor of Economics, and his work covers ASX momentum trading, volatility contraction patterns and episodic pivot setups — methodologies drawn from Mark Minervini's SEPA framework and William O'Neil's market-leadership research, applied to Australian small- and mid-cap equities. The weekly Top 10 published here is produced from Finer Market Points' proprietary momentum score, which ranks eligible ASX stocks on price performance across multiple time windows and is recalculated every week.

Christopher Hall's reading of the district-catalyst pattern behind the two scandium names, and of the week's turnover rate, are anecdotal observations developed across his trading and market-analysis career, not the output of a study. Company catalyst details for Australian Mines, Rimfire Pacific Mining, King River Resources, AVITA Medical, Clean TeQ Water and Power Minerals were sourced from secondary financial media reporting on those companies' 2026 releases and have not yet been confirmed against the primary announcements; they are reported here as company-stated figures. The CMS Medicare payment update for RECELL is a proposal and has not been adopted.
